Translation:

the Lord has an ear on which a lady`s ear-jewel is worn.
He rides on a bull.
having worn a spotlessly pure white crescent moon of a single phase.
He smeared himself with the ash in the cremation ground which has the nature of a forest.
the thief who has captivated my mind
this person is really the great one who resides gladly in Piramapuram possessing greatness, where the Lord bestowed his grace on Piramaṉ who is seated in a (lotus) flower having petals, who bowed to him and worshiped him, in the distant past.

Notes: [[Cīkāḻi has twelve name of which Piramapuram is one; as Piramaṉ worshiped the Lord, with his consort, the goddess of learning it got the name of Piramapuram.]]
[[Piramāpuram: the long letter is used to suit the metre.
The fact that Piramaṉ worshiped the Lord in Cīkāḻi is mentioned in other decades of Ñāṉacampantar;
[[Many scholars have written elaborate commentaries on this one stanza.
The circumstances in which this patikam was sung is described in detail in Periya Purāṇam, Tiruñāṉacampantar Purāṇam, verses 53-80]]

Thodu – an ear stud usually worn by women. Since the consort of Siva resides permanently on the left side of His body, this side sports the thodu and the other ear sports the Kuzhai, the ear stud worn by men.
Brahma – The god of creation, subservient to Siva.
Piramapuram – one of the 12 names of the holy town Sirkazhi. So called because Brahma worshipped Siva here.

Thiru Brahmapuram
Thirucchirrambalam

With studded ear and a pure silver moon-brooch,
Aboard a stud-taurus, adorned in charnel-ash
The Lifter of my heart, of yore graced the coralline lotus-ee
Who piously extolled Him of Brahmapuram, the Lord truly He.
Translation: S. A. Sankaranarayanan, Kumbakonam, 2013
