Civaṉ who holds the weapon of a battle-axe on the right side?
who chanted the Vētam-s!
who has a lady as a half!
the beautiful god who dwells in the temple Aruḷtuṟai in Veṇṇainallūr on the southern bank of the fertile river Peṇṇai!
your function is to remove the sufferings of those who worship you with joined hands.
therefore you came voluntarily to admit me as your protege;
without knowing that, and denying the fact that I was your slave before, is it proper now on my part to counter-argue that I am not your slave?

Armed with red hot axe on the right, Veda-Chanter, part-Uma, Lord
your act is to wipe out the grief
of they that bow unto you.You have taken me on your own.
If it were so, upon me proved,
O, Fair ONE of Arutturai in Vennainalloor on the South
of Pennai ever in spate,
how dismiss me you can your all time slave already
that I am not, none of yours!

Translation: S. A. Sankaranarayanan, Kumbakonam, 2016
